Great pics Chris... Seeing it in person this afternoon was a real treat. From what I heard from Dave...the Outside paint will turn out even nicer than the inside did. It sure is good to see it wearing SamtGrun Paint again. Cheers!! ..and some Dancing Bananas!! - DP

Dave polished the floors today! Man, he sure does nice work! Chris

Saweet! You do realize that thing is way too pretty to do any work now. Looks like you'll have to find yourself another truck for that. I know where there's a beater barndoor singlecab that would work quite well.

It's a roller again. Dave and I will hang the doors etc. before Das Volks and then it's off to my brother's shop for the headliner and dash. The glass will be installed there as well. Then it's a quick trip back to my shop and the assembly begins. Bolting on clean parts is a treat and I'm really looking forward to getting it all back together. There has been a change with the engine plans. I have a 1641 sitting on the stand for it already....anyway, I'm going to spend part of the winter building a stroker for it. Here are a couple pics: Chris

Thanks Shane! Last update before Das Volks: That's it until Tuesday. Dave is going to finish the colour sand and polish this weekend. Then it's back on the trailer to the upholstery shop. Hopefully I'll have some interior progress pics next week. See you at RaceCity!!! I'll be defending my "slowest time ever" award again this year. Chris

I couldn't for the life of me figure out what you meant by 'DC' until now, lol. A mate of mine in my club has an orange RHD one. They refer to them as 'crew cabs' over here, or more often a 'Crewie'.
Anyway, that one looks brill. If your planning on throwing a 2110 in there it'll be tires off the floor time.
Excellent.

OK, 6 month update. I'm going to skip a bunch here and get right to the present work. I'm also committing to proper updates from now on. Life got a little crazy the last few months and my progress has been slow. I'm moving ahead a little each day and the DC will be on the road for it's 40th birthday....hell or high water. Here are a few pics of the interior work and general small part restorations that I've done. Black phosphate coated all the hidden and "working" parts. Here are a few brake and pedal pieces A few NOS bits that I've collected over the years of this build My brother restoring the dash and all the other plastic. So much plastic. Scott will move onto the headliner and custom seats now. Can't wait to see it come together. Custom dash panel to hold 914 gauges. My first time working with plastic for fabrication. I'm very happy with the results. After alot of prep work and finishing the dash starts to go back together. I built most of it at the upholstery shop and moved it to the garage assembled. Also a first for me. Here's the kickin' stereo. Restored Blaupunkt "Frankfurt" with DIN plug adapter and switch for an Ipod. Dual speaker panel for the stock location and a power outlet in the glove box to hide the Ipod or satelite radio. And a shot of the whole mess installed. I've been looking forward to getting the steering wheel in to see how it all looks. The wheel was a Christmas gift from Shayna a couple years ago and it's finally off the shelf and in the bus. Anyway, there's an update. More to follow in the next couple of days. Once the wiring is worked out I'll move to the doors and then to building the engine. Progress. Chris

WOW, Your completed dash looks fantastic. I wasn't initially sure how the wood steering wheel would look in the DC...but I think it works well. The gauge pod is a piece of customization magic... Just like the rest of the bus... super clean, and total perfection. Here's a dancing banana...just because. - DP
