Also, I'm changing the latch mount of the driver's side. I'm recessing the base into the B pillar. Doug knows what I mean and I'll post pics this weekend. Chris I'm going to put my faith in you that you know what you're doing. That's a BIG recess you'll be cutting into that pillar. Remember that the "handles" need room too...not just the mounting base. And to think that all that effort to reinforce that mount base will be lost... Good Luck my friend... I'll be thinking about you while I'm soaking up some Alberta sunshine this weekend. Thanks Doug, I kept all the advise in mind, this morning before work, and built the recess stamp and fabbed it in. It looks like a factory body stamping and the latch fits perfectly. I have to start getting up earlier. This morning was very productive and the new piece was welded in before 7:30!
I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Here' a before and after. I seem to have a tendency to redo things that I've already finished, but I'm very happy with the final results. This is the first try. The latch was very tight...too tight. Even with the bracket extended on the frame, it didn't look or work right. This is my solution. I created a body stamping and cut and welded it into the "B" pillar. The latch fits and functions very well now. And the final product ready for paint. Total time, 3 hours and well worth the effort. Chris

There was a bit of a cross over for this project though. Thanks guys! I'm very happy I re-did the mount. I spent yesterday finishing the metal bumping and welding on the rest of the doors, engine lid, and apron. I have to cut out an engine lid hinge plate today and make a new one. Seems that the old one is stripped out. I spent about an hour gapping the doors and everything is lining up nicely. I plan on sending the doors out for a quick media blast to clean them up again. They've been sitting in the shop so long that I'm concerned about rust. Then I can prime and block. Won't be long before I can roll it out for paint. Chris

To tell you the truth, it's been quite a while since I've seen the inside of the "Hot Rod" shop. I don't have any photos to update for ya. As soon as Chris gets Shayna's Home renovations completed I'm sure he'll start to spend some time back in the shop. He did say that he's planning to SKIP FFH 2007 this year just so he can get some more work done on it. I'd like to see it roll into the bodyshop for final paint by then (end of NEXT month y'know) He's pretty close... Last time I was there he was block sanding the doors...and they didn't need much work either. - DP

It's true. Life and work have gotten the best of me lately. No real progress to speak of, exept the doors are almost ready. I'm back to work on the DC all week (nights anyway) and it will be ready for paint shortly. My painter still isn't ready for me, so I'm going to spray the interior and engine bay at my shop before it ships out. I'll keep everyone posted as I go.

I thought all buses left the factory like that... ;D Yep, that's my '56. It's the one destined to have the hotrod 36 in it. Yesterday was the first day on the road with it this year. It's running like a top. Just have to source out a bad connection at the highbeam switch and do some work on the links and swing lever pin this spring and she's all set. Once the DC is in assembly stage I can focus on a few other "to do's", including a new 1600 sp for Shayna's '60, rebuilding a small nut trans and RGB's for the kombi (Thanks Keith!), and....... Well, it never really ends does it? Chris
