Hey there guys,
Just wondering what people are running on 14" and 15" rims for stock sized tires. A few makes have disappeared lately (Michelin Agilis, proper sized Vanco's) and I'm trying to match up tire height around 26.6" in a radial that can handle a decent load.
Thanks, Darren

I guess I just like "commercial" looking commercials. BF Goodrich AT² 205/75R15

Kumho also have a range of 14" tires, called the 857, which is marketed as "Radial tires for commercial light truck, transporter, van and trailer" though tirerack calls them a trailer tire. They are available in the following sizes: 185/R14C 8/D 25.6" diameter, max load 1,874 lbs @ 65 psig 195/R14C 8/D 26.2" diameter, max load 2,094 lbs @ 65 psig 205/R14C 8/D 27.0" diameter, max load 2,271 lbs @ 65 psig www.kumhousa.com/Tire_SizeChart.aspx?id=7eab87ad-62dc-4d82-897e-e59335de416cThere is a bit of feedback on thesamba on this tire (mostly bay window) and owners of it generally seem to like it. I'm going to try to get some more info on it.

Well, I mentioned a few of these to my tire guy, Brad, @ OK Tire in St. Albert, and he made a few inquiries and even brought a few of the 15's in for me to take a look at. He said there wasn't much available in the 14's. Having seen them up close, I actually prefer the Kuhmo's over the grabbers, as they are not as "aggressive" looking. I think they'll look good on the single so I'll have to clean up a few 15" rims to put them on. Darren Kumho KL78 205/75 R15 General Grabber AT² 205/75 R15

Cool thread. Why did you decide 26 6 was a good height? Is that what the original bias ply's were? I thought they were taller. I'll need to get tires for Daisy in the near future and was going to get 6.80 or even 7.00 X 15 to get as tall as I can, but if there is a decent weight rated radial north of 27" diameter, I'm real interested.
Oh yeah, how much for the Kumho's?

Thanks for the props Keith, Many of the early (50's) busses I've picked up over the years have had the Firestone 6.40-15 biasplys which I figured were very close to factory Dunlop height (have one of these that was the spare for the 58 panel but can't remember the height) as 6.40-15 was the specified tire in the manuals up to 64. Coker tire has these listed as a height of 27.01". I know they are repros, but you'd figure they should be reasonably close. Their weight and pressure rating isn't. store.cokertire.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=640-15store.cokertire.com/640-15-firestone-blackwall.htmlI have also seen BF Goodrich Silvertowns. Coker lists them as 26.88" tall. Again the weight and pressure rating isn't high enough on these repros. store.cokertire.com/640-15-bf-goodrich-blackwall.htmlFor the 14" rims on busses 64-67 and possibly through 70 the specified size is 7.00-14. Coker only shows the BFG Silvertown in this size. They list the height of this tire as 26.8" store.cokertire.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=700-14In the end, the original number I picked was somewhere between the height of the 205/75R14's I ran on my 64 std micro (approx 26.2") and the sizes above. My previous tires gave me great driving speed and acceleration(for a bus) with the big nut transaxle and a rebuilt 1600. After my investigation, I'm picking a decently rated (1,609 lbs) tire, though not Load C rated, that I think looks good on a truck. The truck I have now is a 65 with rebuilt(5000 miles) tranny, and a new (5000 miles) 1641. It currently has 185/75R14's that are ok for initial acceleration, but cause the engine to rev to high for my liking. The standard tire height was just under 27.1, and the original engine was a 1500 SP, so i figure that it will be a wash and it should drive like originally intended by the factory. Darren

The Kuhmo KL78 205/75R15's came out at $ 605 installed and balanced.
The General Grabber AT² 205/75R15's came out at $ 667 installed and balanced.
Balancing will probably be 2-3 cups of glycol in each tire.

Well. Got them on. Kuhmo KL78 205/75R15. I definitely like how they ride. Seems much more solid and the shifting points seem to work better with traffic. Two thumbs up for these tires!

Those look good. I think that's what I will get for Daisy. I figure with a 27" tire, 4.12 R&P and 1.26 RGB's I'll be geared about right for the 1904 I have for Daisy. Did you get a bro deal on those tires, or do you think I can do about the same in Calgary?
Oh yeah, your SC is a 65? If so, I have a spare 65 wiper motor I'll likely never use if you need one or need a spare.
