I knew it wasn't quite right, maybe I'll have to re-create it this afternoon...
I'm more relieved than excited at this point, this thing has been dragging on far too long. Hopefully it will all be worth it!

It is worth every minute. We will have to go on a road trip to the ice cream store. Really soon.
Tim.

this thing has been dragging on far too long. Shane I hear ya buddy. Chin up and muscle through. Won't be long now and you'll be driving a bus! Hell, just tack the slider on and go for a drive right now. Chris

That wouldn't be reinforcing any negative stereotypes, an ugly VW running down the road with a bungee cord run through the passenger side window holding the slider closed. ;D
We'll see how things go this weekend, I'm hoping to have time to finish up the last little things. If things do come together I may know of another bus I can temporarily steal the latches from until mine arrive...

First drive today! It was a short one but it's really the first real drive and my first time driving a bus. My left foot was so jittery I'm surprised I actually got moving sometimes. Only problem so far is a bad knocking noise coming from the passenger side front wheel after the first left turn, have to rip it apart tomorrow and see what's up. I added a washer to the bowden tube and it improved things alot but still needs a little fine tuning as well. Everyone had a good time... Tim if you're reading this I need you to come for a drive, would like a veteran bus driver's opinion on a few things. It seems to be really reving, even doing 30km in second, maybe it's just that I haven't driven a gas standard in a long time (the diesel revs so low). And holy crap is this thing slow, maybe I should steal the 1776cc from the '58. ;D Anyway, a little more work to go, hopefully I can calm my nerves next time and enjoy the drive a little more. Shane

Well, a couple more days in the bus (delivered some things to my Dad and sister on Sunday, took the family to the Canada Day parade today) I'm much more comfortable with things, it's not nearly as slow as I first thought... all that being said it seems I have more work to do. It will not go into fourth gear while driving, which is awesome, I adjusted to plate under the shifter and then when we left this morning found I didn't have reverse either. A quick fix in the parking lot before we came home from the parade, but still annoying. I have all the bushings and coupler but was just putting it off, hopefully they will improve the situation. I had a serious "running hot" issue on Sunday (like boiling fuel hot, the rear apron was almost too hot to touch), I adjusted the timing a little and it ran alot cooler today. Then there was a little incident about half way home today, driving along in third there was a few seconds of not nice clanking noises from the engine bay with a little loss of power, it passed after a few seconds and the rest of the way home everything seemed normal. I'm going to check it out as best I can, do a complete tune-up and see if anything comes up. On top of all that I have to adjust the back end AGAIN, I thought it was perfect but she's got some seriously saggy butt again. I was hoping to never have to touch it again, ever. Just when I thought I was almost there the "to-do" list starts growing again. Oh well, comes with the territory I guess. Happy Canada Day everyone! Shane
