Hey Shane can you send me some more pics of the bus for the NUTS members page? I only have the one and I see that you have quite a few. Alternatively, if you give me the OK I can just take them from your site.
Thanks
Shayna Jaymie

If need be I can email them to you, I have the unaltered higher quality pics still if for some reason they will work better. Shane

Hope that works! - DP That's pretty sweet! I'm still going back and forth in regards to adding adjusters to the beam in addition to the drop spindles. As mentioned I don't really want to go that low, even though I like the look, but I can't decide if 2.5" will be enough. Life would be so much easier if I wasn't so indecisive . Shane

It's been quiet of late so I thought I'd update everyone in regards to the progress on my bus. I've added a bunch of pictures to her webpage (new location by the way, I've run out of room on my Ghia website so had to start a new one). members.shaw.ca/blue_shadow/Vrenis%20Page.htmWe took the engine and gas tank out a couple weeks ago so we can weld up the cut rear floor without risking an explosion. Found a couple really nice things. First off the engine has a remanufactured Bosch gen, carb is a rebuild even though it looks pretty dirty, heater boxes look really nice, the flywheel/clutch/pressure plate look brand new! It ran really well before, and now I know why. On top of that the gas tank itself looks almost brand new, inside and out (makes me think it was replaced, I can't find any VW marking on it). Now with warmer weather coming this weekend and next week, I'm hoping to have time to start the floor repairs and get the engine cleaned up for it's return to the engine bay. If the weather holds up till my spindles come in I may also start assembling all the new brake parts I have waiting for me at C1. The bad news in all this is that I've almost blown my budget! I've set my limit at $3000 (including purchase price) to get the bus back on the road, and so far almost all of that has been spent or alloted to pending purchases. Luckily I'm down to a rear bumper and a few bits and pieces that I still need (I keep thinking I may have to make my own bumper ). That's all for now, I'll keep adding pictures and info as I go. I'm done with Shaw's free space and have moved my Karmann Ghia site, which means I also have more room for the kombi! If anyone is interested in watching my progress (which has been slow with the colder weather) you can check in here - www.karmann-ghias.ca/Vrenis%20Page.htmThe drop spindles should be in late next week, so that might motivate me to get out to the garage! I've been getting as much done as I can on the few warm days we've had lately. Mostly I've been working on getting the cargo floor patched up, but I've also been moving forward on plans for the interior. Here's a little taste of what it's going to look like. Getting the metalwork dealt with is nice, but seeing the interior come together really gives me hope that things will turn out all right . Shane

Got the brakes on yesterday so I could finally set her back down... I really just needed to see things start coming back together, it's been kind of depressing seeing a half torn apart bus sitting in the garage for the past few months. Still a few more things to do/hook up, then I would like to start the mock-up of the interior before I tackle the driver's side rocker. Oh, don't mind the paint on the sliding door, I was just "testing". In the end the decision has been made to bring it back to the original Neptune Blue once it's time to paint. Shane

I've been helping Chris with his Drop-Spindle installation..and eventually the re-indexing of the rear torsion arms.
Brake lines are part of that job...
Chris should post up some pics...his DC should be back on four wheels pretty soon.

It's been awhile so I thought I would do an update since she may be on the road soon. This is the biggest project I've taken on to date and I obviously went into it with unrealistic expectations. I have learned alot, mostly through what I consider to be mistakes, and maybe gained a little bit of patience. I've also recently aquired a few tools that will help make sure things will be done/redone better in the future (hopefully I'll have the 60 gal compressor wired up in time to do some proper painting next spring). As things sit I really only have to do a little wiring and interior assembly before she's ready for an inspection. She's ugly as sin, but she's mine... www.karmann-ghias.ca/Vrenis%20Page.htmShane

Six months since the last update, this time I mean it when I say she's almost ready for the road... She now runs, stops and has working horn and lights. If it wasn't for the slider latch exploding when I took it off to adjust the door I would be on schedule, now I'm waiting on parts to arrive in the mail. I really wanted to take it to Three Hills this year as we are going to be camping at my Grandparents in Torrington that night but it likely won't happen now. I'm almost done hooking up the stereo and there's a little bit of interior to finish up but it's FINALLY almost on the road. Shane

So, I know your excitement. ...and I love the quote on the door. I would only change one thing though. I would have it read. " Oh Hai, I has break lights " - DP
