Hi Gang, here are some of my collection 1956 deluxe micro bus with sunroof I've owned "elvis" since 1968 been through 5 motors and 2 transaxles I added the snorkles for the engine cooling and fresh air to the aircleaner as we live at the end of a 300 mile long dirt road Ruff our '58 single cab - I saw the front sticking out of a wood shed and offered to buy it the owner said no but could I get it running as it been sitting for 15 + years. I got it running that day and offered to buy it but the PO said "Not now that it is running but maybe later on" 10 years passed- long story short The owner called me up and asked if I still wanted to buy it. I went up to look at it again but saw that the ID tags had been removed when I asked about them he said he didn't know anything about them so I asked for a bill of sale - he said that I don't need a bill of sale as it had been sitting for 20+ years. I said I'd pass now but would think about it offered him $100 to let me have first choice acouple of days later the guy calls me up and asks why I took the VW with out talking to him- I told him that I didn't take it I mentioned that the single car was missing and a buddy told me that he saw it being loaded onto the freight truck leaving our valley. The owner talked with the freight truck driver and found out where it went . The owner called the RCMP and told them the story - The cops asked for a signature and they went out to where the SC was and talked with the guy who pulled a paper with a bogus bill of sale with a bogus signature. Later that day the guy calls the owner and offers to buy the SC the owner tells him that I had already had bought it and he was going to be charged with theft unless it was brought back. Two days later it was back and I never heard what was going to happen to that guy but he had big ballz to pull it off. Ive got it running and enjoy it the '57 bug Blackbarry just waiting for the new window rubbers to install the windows after we install the headliner- our latest project a 356B major rust but lots of fun I didn't realize that Porsches didn't have a pan like the bug . This Porsche has been driven in the salted roads of BC and is a Flintstone special but it is coming together- a real learning lesson big fun we also have 1954 bug that a tree fell on the roof 1964 double cab 1966 notch back '71 412 and a bunch more NUTS about those old VW's hank

Thanks The rotisserie plans were on theSamba site It will also fit a type 2 I built the 4 wheel steering out of Rabbit and K car rear axles wheel come off in about 5 minutes sure make it easy to get it out of the shop or stick it into a tight corner so far I've been cutting out the rusty parts and building some new sections but I wish I had a picture of what a 356 looked like when it was new underneath best wishes hank

Hank
How does your rotisserie attach to the axles? Is it just a channel that they slide into?

We cut a steel rim and bolted it to the pivoting brake drum then welded on two angle irons and ran two long 3/8" bolts through the rotisserie- The way it is now each axle only will fit one place on the rotisserie I'm thinking of welding some hinges and another section of angle on top so I can put the wheels on any side.
I have found that the rotisserie sure is a big help- I did the last few bugs with out one and there were times when the welding splatter would run down my arm- no more nasty welding overhead for me
for your information I used 2 1/4"sq. tubing but had to grind down some 2" to make it fit on the inside-- each loop comes apart in half so you can remove it if it is in the way and it makes it easier to install- one 3 1/2"long 1/2" grade 8 bolt pins it together on each side Each section is 23" with a 15* angle on each side it cost about $150cdn to build-- well worth it The plans are on the Samba technical section under type 2 happy trails hank

That's sad...
But how sad would depend on how complete, what kind of options and of course...condition.

Saw this at Marshalls scrap metal yard today on the way back from the body shop. It's actually the cab on a rail car "engine". Their train "engine" is shop made and they adapted a bay window cab as the operators compartment. Although the back end is sitting a bit lower than normal. Dave

You'd think he'd at least have the hitch on the front end. Doesn't make any sense what so ever to me. Then again it ain't mine and I wouldn't do it in the first place.
OKay so I would totally do that if the bus was beyond but it would be an for my yard and more of a place for the kids to play and yard art. The idea of a bus grafted to the side of my shop would be awesome. I'd keep my yard tools in it and the kids wagon....
