The way I fit the slider mounts on mine was trial and error. Screw the wingnut in so that the slider can slide. Now, with the window closed, hold one of the mounts in place against the pillar so that the inner opening on the slider is not quite touching the wingnut. Now don't let the mount move, and open the window all the way. The other end of the opening in the slider should not touch the wingnut. If it doesn't, mark the holes on the pillar with a Sharpie and drill. If the slider contacted the wingnut, adjust the mount so that it just clears and then close the window and make sure it just clears, then mark the holes and drill. Then just repeat that whole procedure for the next three mounts. If, for some reason, you cannot get a little clearance on both ends of the slider, make sure you have a little clearance when the safari's are closed. If they don't open the last 1/4 of an inch, it's no big deal, if they don't close the last 1/4 of an inch, it is a big deal! As far as posting pic's, you have to have the pic hosted on a server. I post all my VW pic's to The Samba and then link them here. To post them on the Samba, just copy the "properties" of the picture and add the image icons around it. Here is a picture of my Mango Here is how it looks in text [im]http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/313901.jpg[/img] The only thing I changed in the text, was I deleted the "g" from the first so that it would not show the picture twice.

Are Izzy's a better brand out there? I mean they all leak right, but I keep hearing Izzy Safari's are better quality. How to they compare to others?

Hey Paul, that's the million dollar question. If you do a search on thesamba in the forums on safaris, you'll see that, that question has been talked about in full detail, with everyones opinions. "which safaris are the best, they all leak?" Before i bought mine, i did a ton of research. The only thing that was consistent was that OG's were the best, then it is just a toss up after that on which one was 2nd,3rd and so on. I don't think that you will ever get a concrete answer....

Ya I've read quite a few threads on the Samba. As informative as that site is, I find it a bit overwhelming. I appreciate the info guys, because yes I'm looking into buying a set, probably this spring. I'm not too concerned about leakage. I want an attractive product (doesn't look cheap), good quality hardware and seals. I'm not really willing to pay over $600 for them either. And yes I know Rico, you can't really put a price on the coolness factor but unfortunately the wife can

I have Wolfgangs in the 15 window. I like them, and if I were to get another set, I would get Wolfgagngs again. The only place mine leak is a seep from the drivers side outside lower corner. I am pretty sure that it is leaking between the seal and the body, not between the seal and the window. Be sure not to cheap out on the seal. Be sure the seal is properly sealed to the body with the correct adhesive as well. I think that is my problem. I have not done this yet, but if sealing the seal to the body properly does not solve my leak, I plan to apply a thin layer of silicone sealant to the sealing surface of the seal, cover the window frame in wax paper and close the windows and leave them overnight. Next morning, remove the wax paper and there should be a custom seal between the frames and the seal.
These things are not a complicated piece of machinery. We should be able to engineer Safari's that don't leak!

Yah, i went nuts and bought OG's, the one side is perfect, but the passenger side has a big gap because the hinge on the frame sits too low, making a crappy fit. If they were both like the drivers side, i would say i would have had a perfect, non leaking set. Too bad i can't say that though. Paul, you are right, you would love them, and you can't put a price on the coolness factor, literally!! I have heard the CE ones are good. Personally, i like the frame painted the same color as the body(white). With that said, all safari's look good though. Paul, i think 600 bucks would be low, unless you bought a used set, which might be the way to go?

Sorry to highjack this thread. If those Wolfgang one's are $450, with shipping I would imagine I'd still be under the 6 bill mark? Edit - I just got a quote from Wolfgang, on powdercoated white set is $507.11 US shipped. With currency exchange should be $594.17 CAD. That's not too bad.

That sounds like a reasonable price to me. Does that include seals? Edit - I just checked their website evidently it does.

Wolfgang is great to deal with too. I ordered a set of rear pop-outs for the fatchick DC and they were friendly and sent them out right away. Of course, I dont have them yet...but they'll be here soon.

"Yup They include everything you need to be stylin'" What they include is everything you need to have a wet parcel tray, knees, floor, wiring and a shorted out stereo. I, maybe the only one, but I hate Safaris. Can't deal with them anymore. The brackets are just one more (very sharp) thing to have in front of you in you already small cab. And the leak factor is just not work it, in my opinion. I bough my first set over ten years ago, and was super stoked to put them in. Loved driving around with them open up until about 50km/h at which point there is just too much air coming in. I drove bus(es) with them on many trips to Seattle and Vancouver. Might have just as well not had glass in the front for how much water comes in on the highway. Sold my OG set to Rico... and I don't think I'm going back to them. Plus now they are getting a bit too common...
