Well, sort of.
So I'm in Drumheller overnight for work, get up this morning and to my great surprise it's -21! So in between visiting customers I decide to cruise the side streets to help warm the car up (damn diesel) and to see what I can see.
Through my journeys I find three bay westy's and a late bay hightop of all things. Just moments ago after cruising only a block away from someone I see every month I see a split bus nose only feet away from the street, as I drive past I see it's a Double Cab! I stopped to talk to the owners wife, she has a Ghia back in PEI, they just sold a late 60's westy last year and are on the hunt for a Dormy, apparently the DC is slated for restoration this year.
I took a couple cell phone pics, not that there's much to look at but we'll see how they turn out. Looks like a '62 or '63 (fried eggs and 15" wheels but they might not be original to the bus) besides the rockers being gone it looks fairly solid and complete. Dealer sticker on the back puts it out of Manitoba originally. It's amazing how many VW's turn up in this town, there's a bullet Single sitting under a tarp just before leaving town as well.
I'm just very excited, hence the post. I did leave a card with info for the site so maybe the owner will jump in. Also gives me a little hope that they are still out there!

Picture didn't turn out so well. Being excited and frozen at the same time doesn't allow for much chance of a steady shot but just to prove that it wasn't hypothermic delusion...

Ya see now I like that picture. Simply put if you shake your head violently and ignore the fried eggs you can see what is obviously a late (non pressed bumper) Binz. With that in mind WOW GREAT FIND. did I mention I've been drinking

See Mowser I like your way of thinking! While I haven't actually talked to the owner it doesn't sound like it would be for sale anyway. I can dream though right? ;D Just have to keep hunting, if you call finding stuff parked on the street hunting... I often wonder how many are still around, I now know of at least 6 or 7 split DC's between here and Edmonton (only two currently on the road).

Nice find brother Every unfound split is a find! The thing about fried egg buses is that it is relatively minor surgery to change out front and rear lights. I really dig perusing the alleys of small towns. An alley will tell you far more about the neighbourhood and it's inhabitants than the front street will.
Go back and visit him in a month. Keep yourself in the front and centre and who knows?
Do I detect our friend Mowser getting a touch snobbish about bullets now??

Hey now, my first bus was a bullet. I'm just going back to my roots. Not to mention I have 3 provinces in my heritage. Can I help it if I kept migrating west when you all fell asleep on the hay bails? ;D I really miss the back alley road trips my best bud and I used to do in Med. Hat. No such thing as back alleys here. I can only think of about 4 streets here in town that have an alley. Yes I've been down then. In fact my '59 Double cab was parked in one of them.

OBO...I hate when people fish like that. I sent him an email to see what his #'s are. I really don't need it, but doesn't hurt to ask right? Looks like a pretty decent truck to start with.
