Hello NUTS! We're planning on offering some awards at a few of this years shows. So, we're looking for ideas and suggestions as to what exactly they should be. What does everyone think? Best bus? Most improved?
Let us know. I realize that awards aren't everyone's thing, and to be quite honest I don't think anyone should take the awards too seriously, so let the ideas fly!

Personally I'm not into the whole "best bus/engine/interior" and what-not.
I would much rather something obscure, like "best use of a plastic chicken to make a VW bus roadworthy", or something along those lines...

Recognition for someone's hard work is never a bad thing! Maybe keep it light-hearted.
- Best Stereo System - Fastest Working Wipers - Coolest Sticker - Tallest Bus/Lowest - Quietest/Loudest (engine) - Best 'Rig' Job

Hmmm,
Most NUTS (a.k.a. Enthusiasm / Spirit ) Furthest traveled ( you gotta be nuts to travel long distance in a pre 70 type II) ..I'll need some more time to think about this.

I think, being as how we are admittedly NUTS, that Shane is on the right track for awards. As a carryover from last season, it could be "The Chicken Little Award" for the most creative use of a rubber chicken to make/keep a bus roadworthy. A couple that come to mind right off quick: The "That Sheep's a Liar Award". Presented to a member for "Most creative use of a Farm animal during restoration". The "Burned Shirt Award" for the member who "Didn't realize welding slag was really that hot". The "I Coulda Pushed it Here Award" for shortest distance travelled. The "What's Wrong With That? Award" for the most questionable use of a non VW part on a bus that the ownwer actually thought was "acceptable". The "What Was He Thinking Award" for the gawdiest paint scheme on a bus. The "Duct Taped Gopher Award" for the coolest sticker. (Don't spend too much time trying to see the connection- there isn't one) The "Proof I've Been NUTS for a Long Time Award" to the person whose bus has been owned the longest amount of time (and has it at the show/presentation ceremony/ drunken slobfest). The "I Just Recently Lost My Marbles Award" for the person whose bus has been owned for the shortest amount of time (and has it at the show/presentation ceremony/drunken slobfest)

I definitely like Keith's ideas (maybe I shouldn't paint over the hippy sun on the kombi's roof right away...). Keep it light, keep it fun.

Haha that's pretty funny DP! How about the "How far can you drive with no clutch award?" Or the "Can you make it home in one piece with no brakes award?"
