Ok, Back on track. Last Friday (day 35) Chris (commercial-air) and Keith came by to give me a hand for the better part of the day, and they were a great help! Keith unbolted what was left to unbolt, and Chris spend some time on the drivers side dog leg, by far the worst of the two. That morning the Panels arrived that I had ordered from Gerson (www.klassicfab.com)....and they are nothing short of amazing!!!!! Those are going to save some serious time. The photo has some of the panles for my 57' as well...in case you are wondering why there are 3 rear corners.... ;D Thanks again to Chirs and Keith for the awesome work, I really appriciate it! On Saturday I made a quick trip to Saskatoon to check out a car and have a long overdue visit with Trevor P. On sunday we spent the day checking out his projects, he's got some good stuff on the go! I know now why he works so slowly on his projects...man is it cold there!!!!! The doors back from getting stripped-Thanks Jim!! The Klassicfab panels all laid out...awesome stuff Chris removing spot welds. and his work on the dogleg

I know now why he works so slowly on his projects...man is it cold there!!!!! And you thought I was just a lazy ass. I told you though...you brought that cold mountain air with you. Since you left it has been +10 the whole time. The bus is looking good. I can't wait to see those Gerson panels in person.

I see that picture of myself and I have 2 words.....
Grecian Formula.
It sure was fun working on the DLX! I wish I could have actually finished that dogleg though. Oh well, with some more rusted metal shards removed, you now have less of a chance of needing a tetanus shot. ;D

Day 50 and 51. I had to take a little break for a quick trip, but now I'm back at her. I've been doing a little bit of several sections. The subframe and rocker(s) on the cargo door side, the left rear corner section, and the long rocker on the drivers side. My list of metal repair work is getting shorter, but there is still lots to do. The underside stuff is very time consuming, but it went quicker than other buses/trucks I've done in the past partly due to the quality of the Klassicfab panels. The outriggers and jack points are all done on the passenger side. I tried on the Klassicfab belly pan afterwards, and it slipped over the ohter pieces like it was an NOS panel. It was unreal....I'll have to take a pic of it installed. The rear corner sitting in place. Drivers side rocker... same cover the rust with a patch technique.... Pass. side rear outrigger and Jack point installed Pass. side front outrigger, jack point to follow Short rocker, pass. side Pass. side almost finished Just have to do the same to the drivers side.... Pass. side cargo rocker, inner and outer istalled, short rocker installed. Just have to get some wheel wells fabbed up, and keep going towards the back corner, then onto the drivers side for all of the same...

I would gladly do it, But I think I'm booked until next winter. Then there is the small matter of money.... ;D I would say this bus, which is "decent" but not great will take about 200 hours to get to the point where it could go to a body shop for filler, primer and paint. At $40.00/hour (not even sure if this is possible) that would be $8000.00 plus panels (all Klassicfab- pretty much $2000) So..... there you go! I guess the one saving grace is that deluxes buses are worth it (BD's too), but anything else you would really have to think about if it's worth it.
Hope this sheds some light on this.
Ken

How did you get Chris to wear Safety Glasses... We have to beat him up until he reluctantly puts them on when he's back here at home. Good for you! As for the progress... It's looking GREAT. Thanks for posting some awesome pics! - DP

Hey Martin! Good to catch up with you again.... Your bus has been looking good.I saw the pics on the samba. I probably would have just done the same with this one (get it going and enjoy it) but it was too rusty to pass an OOP (Out Of Province) inspection.....and the Pink . Chris don't worry about the hair color... Trev (rareair) and I are going to have to start buying stocks in the Rogaine company.... ;D. Grey is better than none.... I've been super lucky to have friends with similar interests to lend a hand with my resto projects. That Friday here was super fun, we got a lot done, and the day went very quickly. When anybody wins the lottery, just buy the shop from me, and we'll lock the doors, unplug the phones and just work on aour buses for fun. More like a nuts clubhouse.

Met the owner of this 23 Deluxe in Winnipeg just before he moved to Calgary in the '90s sometime. Hooked up via NEATO back then.
Just saw a few pics but did not even have time to see this 23 in person before he left.... always interesting to see what lies behind the paint!!

Hi scott, Yeah... Doug (insert forgotten last name here),.... seemed like an alright guy. I don't think he knew what was under that fantastic pink paint! He did not seem like too much of a do-it-yourself type (at least with the body work). Could you imagine if somebody just sent this unit to a bodyshop I've been slowing up a bit on the metal work, but I got hback at her this weekend. No more real surprises now, just lots of metal gone. The next photos are not for the faint at heart. There is quite a bit of Rosie missing.... The only way you could ever clean in here... A scary side view And some sanding on the roof - just for a bit of a break. If anyone is bored, and wants to sand/cut/grind/weld....feel free to contact me and come by some night... . It's TONS of fun, I promise...

Ken, If Doug knew about these rust repairs I probably would have heard it as I showed him pics of the '67 with the metal work. This project is starting to make even John's 23 look doable, plus my SO23 as well....... scary stuff Scott

If I lived in Calgary Ken...You can be sure that I'd be there to help out...
Or at least take photos while you work. It's worked well for Chris. Besides, it's good to have an extra set of hands or someone to talk to when working on a project.
I helped Chris clean-up the Hot Rod Shop this weekend...

If I can get away some evening I'd love to come and help out ("help out" being a relative term as I really have very little body work experience. I'm learning to weld by working on the Kombi , Dad was a welder for almost 20 years so I've got a good teacher). I wouldn't mind doing a little grunt work if it means I might learn something though. Scott,
I'm not sure what you mean about the pictures...was your 67' good or bad? I showed Doug the underside of the bus when he was wanting to sell it, and I knew it had lots of problems, but there is something about a bullet nose 23.... I just couldn't walk away from it. He was super reasonable with me, and we both got a good deal.
I saw the pictures of Johns 23 the other day, and it is fixable, 100%. I other than the doors, it would not be much more work than Rosie. She had very solid, straight doors for some reason. You can also buy used doors pretty cheaply, when you consider how much welding and body work costs to fix up some old wrecked ones. His bus is definately not worse than my 57', and that is next on my long list of resto projects.
Thans for the offer guys, It's pretty much open ended, I work here on her most nights and all day on Sundays, so if anyone wants to "help" in any way, I never say no.
