Well I tried to put my breaks on today and it looks as though i may have the wrong rotors. Are there different rotors for different years? or is a but disk the same all around. It looks to me like the distance between the face of the spindle and the outer edge of the hub is too shot for this particular rotor ? I don't even know if I know what I'm talkin about. Ken will be able to figure it out I'm sure! What a bad weekend, first i tried to do the valves on my quad , which resulted in it smoking more than any quad should Now the bus does not want to have disk breaks, well at least not the ones I have for it ........ frustrated Joby

It looks like '71-72 and '73-79 are different. Do you know what year your spindles and rotors are?

Ken may know better, but it looks like everything including the spindles are specific to those years.
Check to see if the calipers you have will bolt up, apparently the mount changed slightly in '73.

Ya I'm gonna go see ken on Monday , the problem is with the rotor secured to the hub the caliper would need a spacer ( like 5mm or so ) to bolt it to the spindle , Looks like I have a wrong part . Since the caliper will bolt on with out the disk in the way ( offset too wide ) it looks like I may have the wrong rotor? AAAAHHHH the joys of converting something really old to something not quite so older with no previous knowledge....... .... That's just good times , Now I'm more botherd by my quad , a lot of smoke considering i had it re-built like 110km ago . Joby

Good luck Joby! It should go together fine now. I managed to strip the lock nuts on the lower ball joints and Doug had to save the day with a shipment from VW. Other than that it went together easily and the rear end only took a 1/2 hr to lower. Now I'm a member of the barely lowered bay window bus club. It's loweredish! Chris

I think I want to stencil that on the back, just like Hoodride!
"BLB / It's lowerdish"
Damn I wish I had skills with photoshop...

I'm waiting until I can get the engine and interior back in before I adjust anything. I've heard it's not that hard, if Chris can do it 1/2 hour then I'm sure it'll only take me an afternoon ;D.

I dropped the rear one outer spline. I guess once the engine is in and it's back down on all four wheels I may have to adjust everything again. Bay buses suffer from rear suspension sag over time and this could play a roll. I figured because I had completely rebuilt everything already that it should be sitting at stock ride height to begin with. Doug and I checked all the geometry when we put it together the first time.
To drop the back, it's as simple as taking out the lower shock bolt, the spring plate cover, and the 4 bolts that attach the rear spindle to the spring plate. Move the whole works out of the way (I used a paint can to rest it on). Mark and pull the spring plate off and reinstall in the next spline. Put the whole thing back together using lots of anti-seize compound and you're done.
