Another question for the experts. I've found a front disc brake kit for my 64 which will result in my front wheels being a porsche 5x130 pattern. The rear axle conversion will give me either the bus 5x205 or beetle 4x130 pattern depending on which final brake drum I go with. Given that, should I or can I find 5x130 to 5x205 adapters for the front and use 5x205 on rear? or get the adapters on the rear and just use 5x130 rims? I do not plan on or need to use stock rims, I was hoping for some bling on the rims .... something chromed. ;D

Doesn't Wolfsburg West now sell a disk kit with wide 5 pattern??
Seems alot easier than having to deal with adapters, offsets, etc.
I could be blowing smoke though...I haven't actually looked them up myself.

I would just buy new blank drums for the rear & have them drilled for the 5X130 pattern to match you front disc kit. Then you will have the porsche pattern all the way around with no adaptors. That will make it easy to run "bling" wheels!

I remember reading something about redrlling and tapping the drums to 5x130 Thanks for jogging the memory. There are a few kits the would be the stock pattern but the prices seem to avg $1500 and not sure if that includes dropped spindles. VDub engineering sells caliber attachment plates for about $250. Picked up a pair of Porche hubs, rotors and calibers for $150.00. Drop the spindles for another $200 and I'm done. Dave

Can any machine shop redrill the bug drums to 5-130 pattern or does anybody have someplace locally (Alberta?) that does it?

I think any quality machine shop could do it. Now, it is a matter of whether they will or not. Liability and all that. If you have access to a good drill press it should be easy enough. I haven't done it myself yet, but if I ever find I'm in that situation I will. How hard can it be right?

I'm no expert but I believe they require a specific machine to do it. All about keeping the Hub centered. There was a post on it recently on the ASF but I couldn't find it. It's not something you would want to try on your drill press at home. Disaster waiting to happen dood. Seek professional help

I would think doing yourself would result in a balance problem. Franklins Werks is one company that advertises that they do it. $75.00 a pair plus shipping 2 ways into the states. Would be nice to find someone locally.

A friend of mine in the DVKK is a machinist, and drilled the T3 drums for my 56 to 5x130 for me. I can send you his contact info if interested.

I'm sure Lanner at VDub Engineering could do it. Still shipping from T.O. though. They should be drilled and studded by the way. Much safer.
