OK, now it's becoming serious... A big piece of my steering wheel's hub just fell off, and I don't think the rest of it has very long to live. Does anyone have a steering wheel they can sell me that's in good shape? I bought one recently, but it's not much better than the one I have on there now. My bus is a '73, and I think they changed design after '74 (unsure what year this specific design commenced).
Thanks for looking.
Dennis

Where are you located and will a 74 fit?? I have a complete 74 parts bus and your welcome to the steering wheel. I'm just north of Airdrie.
Give me a call.

If Tim's won't work for you I may be able to snag one for you next Monday. Or if you need help with picking it up it'll give me an excuse to finally make my way out to Tim's place Shane

Thank-you, Tim and Shane. Let me find out if a '74 will fit, and get back to you both in a day or two.
Again, thanks.

I'm hoping Tim's will fit, but at this point, we're unsure because VW changed the wheel's internal hub during their mid-'74 production year (Tim's parts bus is a '74, and he's unsure if it is a early, mid, or late year production), thus making the I.D. smaller than before. Does anyone know what the dimensions should be of either the pre-'74 change (i.e., the one I have in my '73) or the post-'74 change? Tim figures the hub I.D. on his part is 22 mm (correct me if I am wrong, Tim), but I am unable to compare it with my part as I am afraid to remove my wheel due to the severe cracking at the hub.

Dennis, you should be able to measure the spline diameter by removing the horn assembly and leaving the wheel installed.
What about measuring the one I sent??

Haha - yes, what about the one you sent. Well, I did think about that; but, without any disrespect to you, I could not be positive that this steering wheel was the correct model for my bus's year... More to the point, I was apprehensive about querying you on the correctness of said part, given the pain in the a$$ I'm guessing I've already given you.
So, in the case of Tim's wheel, comparing it to another "unknown" could produce either a false positive or false negative result. Again, no disrespect to you - it's all that "Murphy's Law" crap, which seemingly has so much real world application in my experiences, drives me to error on the side of caution (whenever possible - which doesn't seem to be often enough).
Enough said - I'll simply remove the horn assembly (for the sake of certainty). Thanks Chris.
