Hello, Well as you all know some of us nuts are lowering our bay window boxs, and as some of you do not know 14" rim's will not fit over a newer ( 71- 79 ish ) disk break set up. I however did not know this until to-day when i tried to bolt on my rims and get MILTON on the ground . Well it looks like i am in need of some 15" rims and now i get to go fight with WAl-Mart to take back the brand new tires i just bought , because now they don't fit on the bus. So what it boils down to is I have 5 14" wide five rims , which i have just refinished by sand blasting and painting ( White) for sale and I need to buy some 15" wide five rims . So let me know what you have? joby

I can't help you with the 15" wheels, all I have are Type I. What are you hoping to find and what's your budget?
How much are you asking for the 14's?
I know this isn't what you want, but I have a set of 14" 5x112 bus wheels you can have if you change your mind.

Yes, Beetle/Ghia rims, they are only 4" wide which is the biggest problem. You can get 15" bus steel wheels as they came stock up til the early 60's but that may not be easy (especially since they are going on a bay, trust me I tried, nobody seems to want to give them up ). The 5x112 I have are stock for '71 to '79 buses and early vanagons. You can see a pic of one wheel here - www.clubveedub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=16409. They are in nice shape, I only have them because that's where my tires came from. You'll still have to change out your rear drums or maybe they have adapters for 5x205 to 5x112? At least you can keep the tires you have. Shane

Hay all just a little update,
Took the rims around to a few tire places today and they said " low profile NO WAY " they even went as far as to tell me they don't make such a tire. Then I strolled into concept one for some cheap Brazilian hub cap clips , and lone and behold they have low profile tires that will fit . So I picked up some Continental tires that are 175 50 R15 which are nicely low and will work great there will be a bit of " Bubble " from the tires as they are really made for like a 4.5 to 5 inch rim but they will work , maybe??
I took my new rims to the sand blaster and blasted them ( that really is a lot of fun ) and then sprayed them in the garage , again trim-clad white glossy. going to get the tires mounted this week after the paint dries. I will post pics of the new sneakers soon........

With the weight of the bus on pass car tires you may not be happy. The low profile may help with less sidewall flex. I have driven a bay with cheap passenger car tires on it and it feels like trying to stand on an exercise ball

The "bubble" will force the tire to bulge in the middle somewhat, so it may wear a little prematurely in the middle. Not a big deal. You should also be OK with the lower profile tires. Stock height buses require a reinforced sidewall to prevent sidewall flex. Mark's analogy of standing on an excersise ball is a good one. Anyone who has cheaped out and bought regular passenger car tires for their bus generally ponies up for the goods after the first windy highway run. The lower profile of the tire aids in limiting the sidewall flex, and the bus being a bit lower limits both the roll and yaw moments of inertia , so you should be OK with what you have. Be sure to get an alignment done after having your front end apart so you don't skin off those tires prematurely.

... So I picked up some Continental tires that are 175 50 R15 Joby OK, I remember now (about 36 hours later) It took me a while to remember, but Tirecraft is the other place where you can get those Continental eco-contact tires. Doesn't do you much good now. I bought mine at Concept one too, but I think they were a tiny bit cheaper at Tirecraft ...not by much. (I'm the one who was talking to you at concept one ... I have those tires on my 75 rabbit.)

Hay there , Nice to put a name with a face, Thanks for the tip. I do think I got an OK deal on them at concept-1 and they are a sponsor so why not . I got them put onto rims today ; That guy was mad at me , apparently very hard to get on the skinny ass rims of mine but oh well. Got them put on the bus tonight and after a little fighting I got Milton on the ground wearing his new sneakers.
