Hey Bretheren I have four days off this weekend (Friday to Tuesday), so I figure it is as good a time as any to start Hammerin' Dolly. I think Mama and Kidlets are going up to the lake for at least a couple days, so I will have garage space. Anyone who is remotely handy with a hammer and/or a dolly is most welcome to stop by and contribute your little bit to Mango history! I have never banged out a dent in my life, so I have held off any hammering on the Mango so I don't make it any worse. I think I will also rebuild the Z-Bed to full width whilst I have garage space. Anyhow, I will be beholden to all who help out - beer and pizza will be supplied. Let me know - my cell # is 540-1871 Keith

If I can get away I will call. I'll be doing what I can on the Kombi this weekend (lack of parts means I'm running out of things to do, damn backorders...) plus we're on baby watch, but it would be nice to come out.

i really appreciate the offers so far gents (and Lady). We really need someone (at least one someone) who actually knows how to do this. I know just enough about dent smacking to know that I can actually make a dent worse by not smacking it properly. Anyhow, I'm going to try to do some research on proper dent smacking procedure and hopefully I can scare up an experienced dent smacker!

How bad are the dents? Do you have body tools? We could always throw a couple inches of bondo on LOL

I have no body tools except for a ball pien hammer and a two by four. I know, the body guys are cringing. Getting a cheap set of hammers and dollies was on my list of things to do tomorow. One of the "problems" with this bus is that it is original paint. As most of you already know, I am not a shiny bus kinda guy, and I would like to preserve the OG paint on this specimen, (how many original paint 50 something Mango's have you seen lately?)but still knock back some of the worst dents. I don't want to bondo it al all, just clean up the dents. Idon't know how to describe the damage in a way that body guys understand, but I will try in laymans terms. The bottom of the nose has been pushed in pretty good. On a scale of 1 to 10 in damage, I would say it is a 3 or 4 (10 being the worst). The tail light area has been pushed in from the bus being pushed around by a 4x4., again 3 or 4 out of ten. Then there are sundry miscellaneous dents elsewhere. I know that it will require metal replacement and bondo to actually "repair" the damage, but I really want to try to save the original paint. If it turns out it is too far gone, I can budget for body next year maybe as this years dub budget is shot to hell just getting this animal on the road and building a 2 litre for the 15 and a 1776 for Mango.

I bought a hammer and dolly kit from princess auto a while ago. It had 3 hammers and I'm thinking 3 dollys.. (would half to run out to the workshop to count). It was only about $20 or so.
I tried you on your cell Keith, not sure which day I'm going to be in Calgary.

Keith, look for the set of rubber dollies at Princess Auto. They will help keep the paint in good shape. You can also glue a piece of vinyl or thin rubber to the face of a hammer to keep the head from damaging anything. Looks like we won't be able to make it this weekend. Sorry, wish we could be there to help out. Chris

Keith You are welcome to use my hammer and dolly set, plus I have a copy of the metal bumping book that tells you how to do it. I won't be needing it for a while since my project is in the body shop now. I was going to see if DP was up for a day trip on Saturday, so I can go to C1 and spend some more loot on my project. Anybody know if C1 is closed this weekend? nothing posted on the web site yet.

If you are going to get up this way Mark, let me know and we can meet For lunch and then go to C1 Maybe? Brett is in for Sunday, Dave, I'll give you a call. Thanks to all
