Hiya fellas! I'm looking for one of these: Driver's side, dove blue would be excellent, it's early and the shape is slightly different than the later 60's version. I believe it's the only piece I'm missing from the '56. Help a brotha out. Cash, PayPal, money order, or trade...just let me know. Thanks, Chris

For us non-BUS guys out there... Is that "scoop" the part that fits on the 1/4 glass ?
If not, where does it go?

Yep, that's exactly what that is. I guess I created a "name that part thread" without realizing it. Thanks Doug. I guess the title should read, Vent window scoop.

Hey Brother Is that not a passenger side pictured? The passenger sides are not a mirror image of the drivers side, they are "taller" - more scoopiness so to speak. I have a spare drivers side one that is identical to the one on my 61. :-/I believe it was originally Dove Blue, but it has been painted kind of a cream colour. I'll get it in the mail to you. If you're not in a hurry (which I doubt you are) I will wait until after Christmas to reduce the possibility of it getting lost in the mayhem.
BTW, I always called them breeze windows, Americans tend to call them vent windows, and now 1/4 windows. All the same thing though!

;D Name that part...
Not bad for a non-bus guy. I called it a 1/4 window...but its not important for me as a terminology. Ghias have one piece glass.
Now where did I put my Santa hat?

Once again, Thanks Keith!!!
The one shown is passenger side. I stole the image from the Samba classifieds. I'm on my way to the shop and I'll have to check out the '55 panel. I didn't realize that they were different shapes from side to side. I know the later ones are different.
Merry Christmas!!
BTW, I usually call them vent wings??

I got the scoop emancipated from it's window and it appears that it's original colour was Turkis. That would put it in the" late" category although it is identical to my 61's drivers side scoop that I have very good reason to believe is original. i don't know what the early ones look like or when the change occurred. Can you post a pic of the 55's scoop for reference? I'm off to M&D's for tree decorating and a feast, but I will post a pic of the one I have later on.

Here is a pic of the spare scoop and the stock scoop on my 61. They appear identical. It would be interesting to see what the scoop on the 55 looks like.

I have a set of spare 56 doors Chris. I could probably steal this piece off the one door for you. It was originally DB, but has a nice coat of white house paint over it. (How come most of the buses I find are painted this way? :

I forgot my camera when I went to the cabinet shop today. I'll post pics tomorrow. However, I checked out a '55, '58, and a '63. The '55 panel has matched "scoops" that look like the first pic in this thread. Both the '58 and '63 have ones that look like Keith's pic. Here are some reference pics: 1956 1960 Chris

I'll get a side by side comparison pic up today. I believe the later style began in 1961...but I don't have a pic to put up right now. Chris

Yup, those both look like a mirror image of the original passenger side one that you posted. FWIW The Mango(Sept 59) and my 15 (June 61)both have "tall" passenger side scoops and the 15 has a short drivers side scoop. The Mango has a tall drivers side scoop

Side by side for reference. 1955 1963 I double checked the '58 and the scoops are missing. I'm thinking that you are right about the change Keith. Trevor, I'll take you up on your offer. ;D The mystery continues......
