I need the starter for my engine run stand My Bad, I should have included that. The rear brakes as well as nearly everything else are still up for grabs though. Greg

I got a lead on the backing plates, waiting to hear back, but I think if you have the axles still they would work for me. Maybe the axle tubes but not 100% sure I think I need 61-66 tubes.

With your straight axle conversion are you going with swing axle or IRS? If you are going swing the axles from this car will be of no use to you. If you are going with swing I may have a '65 tranny out back, I would have to check though.

Swing axle, according to Keith's info I need axles from a Type 3 or 68 and later Beetle. Axle tubes from a 61 to 66 Beetle.

Dave I think what Keith means is that you need axles & tubes from a 61-66 beetle (short axles) & drums/backing plates from a 68 or newer (4 bolt drums) I can help you out with all of that. I have a complete '65 tranny, or just the axles/tubes if you like. Then the drums & backing plates from the 70. Let me know if you are interested. Greg

Swing axle, according to Keith's info I need axles from a Type 3 or 68 and later Beetle. Axle tubes from a 61 to 66 Beetle. Dave Just to clarify - For the straight axle conversion, what is needed are long axle/long spline SWING axles (not IRS). . Those came on all Type 3 swingaxle cars (62-66?) and Standard and de Luxe Beetles in 68 and Standard Beetles (those that still had swing axle transaxle) up till 77 or so. Beetles came with IRS transaxle in 68 with an autostick and then in 69, all de Luxe Beetles got IRS transaxles And yes, axle tubes and bearing caps from 61-66 Beetle.

Thanks for clearing that up Keith. Well Dave, I guess I won't be able to help you out as much as I thought. I may still have some stuff you need though.

No problem ;D. Actually, I was introduced to another fella here in Taber who is big on VW mostly bugs (he had a bus a few years ago - sold it and regrets it now) anyway, he has a shed plum full of parts to get rid of . He says he should have almost everything I need. As well a guy in Lethbridge as the backing plates with all the brake compenents. Dave

If you have no interest in the autostick trans, and decide to toss it, do yourself a favour, and keep the hockey stick from the nose cone. This is the same one that Berg uses in the 5 speed conversion. There are also a couple good gears with decent ratios inside it to use for a performance trans.

Now THAT is something to keep in mind! ;D Thanks for the tip Rareair. Eventually I would like a Berg 5 & to step into the 2 liter & up class!

OK, some stuff is spoken for now and tentatively sold. Lots of other parts still available. If you don't see it just ask, I probably have it somewhere in the garage or attic!

How about a 40 horse generator stand?? Just kidding. Good work spreading the parts Greg! Looks like this one will keep a number of them on the road. Chris
