I think most of you guys know that I am the most recent steward of Daisy, the Humboldt Co-op/Zeigler Enterprises/Sportsman Campers single cab. Here is it getting delivered to the new stable. My daughter immediately claimed it her own and promptly named it Daisy. I actually don't mind the name, I think it is fitting. Anyhow, this will be next winters project (Once I get the Mango done). Daisy is safely in Sadie's garage and I won't have room for it in my garage till next fall, but I have taken the doors off to get some work done on them in the mean time. The first order of business was to strip off the top two layers of logos to get to the original logos underneath. I could see that it was a CO-OP logo, but that was all. I was pleasantly surprised with what I found. This is what they looked like before the scraping and Easy Off treatment Here is what they looked like after the first treatment and this is what they look like now I am going to strip the tailgate as well. After seeing what the doors say though, I think I can see Humboldt Coo-op Ass'n. through the paint.

very cool! Uncovering old logos & signwriting is great fun. ...almost like a treasure hunt.
Is "easy-off" oven cleaner or graffiti remover?

Are you looking for a DS outer handle for Daisy? I saw something in one of your Samba postings about this. If so I have one I can donate to your cause.

That's great! Yes, it's for Daisy. I got a couple latches for the windows from a guy in Kentucky and I had the door latch and handle mechanism from another bus. All I am missing is the outer handle and I can get the doors completed. Therre was a lot more dicking around to getting the doors completed than I thought there would be! This made me realize that I have been blessed with relatively complete and functioning doors on my other projects!
Anyhow, thanks buddy! Let me know how I can return the favour!

I'll try to remember to peel it off one of my spare doors tomorrow when I'm out at the parents acreage. If you wanna return the favour, I do need an NOS outer drivers handle for a 56 Beetle...you wouldn't have one of those collecting dust by chance... LOL!

I don't have an NOS one, but I do have an icepick drivers door handle for a Type 1. I'll get a pic of it if you like. It isn't too bad from what I remember and may work OK while you search for the elusive NOS one.

Not too worried about it Keith. I have lots of spare T1 outer handles, but they all need rechroming. I'm just hunting for an NOS one to match the pass side one I already have. I will probably just get my best ones redone.

Well, I went to visit Daisy last night. Co-incidentally, Daisy was conveniently located just steps away from a really tasty New Years turkey feast! I took the ignition switch and the treasure chest latch back home to clean them up in anticipation of getting them re-keyed. I plan to have Daisy's locks matched to my 15 window key so that I don't have too many keys to haul around. Anyhow, the treasure chest latch has seen a few rainstorms, and there is some foriegn object appears to be stuck in the keyhole. I have gazed longingly at the mechanism, but I still have no idea how the key lock can be separated from the rest of the latch.
Anyone know how this particular miracle is performed??
Should I just put the old school locksmith on the job?

Reviving this thread RiffRaff after seeing your interest in the single cab I found here in Salmon Arm. What sort of parts are you looking for still? I doubt very much that this one will be salvageable as it's sitting on the Frame. For those of you just tuning in.......... this is what I saw and what I wrote on the Bus Hunting thread on the samba I've been sitting on this for a couple weeks now. Today I finally had a chance to meet with the owner of the property. This is what I was able to see from the road.
Upon closer inspection it's a '59 - 61 Dove blue single cab complete with logos. The roof has met with some misfortune over time. The box is full of steel and such. The worst part is the lack of front beam and (I'm guessing) the complete tranny and motor are also missing. Yup it's sitting on the ground. The good news is that the front seat is still there as are the bumpers, rear hatch, apron, treasure chest door, and even the front emblem. I took a bunch of pictures with my cell phone but for the life of me can't find the memory card to download them onto my computer. next time out I'll bring my good camera.
There is also a 1500s Squareback and the floorpan of a beetle (identified as an April of '61) on the property. I'd love to dig through the brush some more to see what else I can turn up. Perhaps a set of Crows Feet and original drivetrain.
From talking with the property owner the Single has been sitting there since they purchased the property some 30+ years ago. The other VW's are theirs...

I think i\I'm a little overdue to update this thread. Daisy finally made it home with me in May of 2011. I have been working pretty dligintly on it since then as my goal is to drive it to OCTO in June of this year. I'll post some pics and descriptions of activities,
