I have several generator fuel pump pushrods, and I was planning on cutting one down to size to properly regulate the fuel pressure on my 2L. I need the original length of an alternator push rod so I have that reference to start from. Can someone measure the length of their alternator fuel pump push rod and let me know? Thanks

Concept 1 has BOTH sizes in stock... When I swapped my fuel pump to an "alternator" pump/style push-rod it was mentioned that the Alternator push-rod was shorter. As for getting the correct amount of push-rod travel to operate your fuel pump correctly, the Bentley manual ( I don't have one nearby or I'd get you the spec - I think it's also in the "Idiot guide".) But, get the fuel pump base gasket and the "brown colored" bakelite fuel pump base in place on your engine... insert the push-rod and get something to measure with like a ruler...or something more accurate like a depth gauge. Rotate the engine over - by hand - until the push-rod is at it's highest point. Stop rotating the engine and get out your ruler or depth gauge. I can't remember exactly how many millimeters the push-rod sits up from the bakelite base...but if you have too-little lift on the push-rod... you sand down the face of the bakelite until you've removed enough material. re-measure to be sure your push-rod lift is correct... Now, if you have too much push-rod lift, it's recommended to add gaskets under the bakelite piece until your push-rod lift is within spec. Now someone else help me out and dig up that spec... - DP

Thanks DP ;D This is the kind of thing that folks catch hell for on the Samba. I found a website (I searched!!) that spec'd the push rods at 4.18" for generator and 3.92" for alternator. I also measured the fuel pump gaskets (both top and bottom) at 12/1000" per gasket for those of you shimming fuel pumps to get proper fuel pressure.
BTW - stock fuel pump is designed to deliver ~400cc/min of fuel @ 4 psi @3800 RPM.
