Trevor, 50 mm is standard and I'd appreciate anything you can do. I have a couple that I need to check out in the shop.
Here's how it looks so far. 77.5mm bore X 77.5mm bore X 72mm stroke X 3.1416 = 1359 cc!!
The rod ratio works out to 1.81 and I'll get more into explaining that as I go(and learn). I'm really getting into this.

OK, so here's a few things to start this off. This is the case I'm starting with. Definitely the dirtiest engine I've ever torn apart. Everything was covered in a 1/2" of sludge. But, the case is in excellent shape and so are the heads. Basically, I've just been cleaning and checking parts. I have rebuilt the rockers and fuel pump, cleaned and bead blasted the heads, and scrubbed the case. I'll get more into How-To's on a few of these steps, but until then, this is a pic of the rebuilt rockers. and a couple of my most recent E-Bay and swap meet scores. I'm just waiting on valves to arrive and then the heads go to K-Roc for porting and polishing. Still lots to do but everything is coming together. Chris

Chris,
Interesting details about the vented Valve Covers.
Will those simply "puke" the excess onto the ground under the motor? Also, what about the "bails" that hold the v/c in place...will the breather tube interfere with the way these fasten to the motor?
I'm only asking because, the "hot rod" motif of your engine could be accentuated by a Chris Murray Custom (CMC) 36hp Breather Box assembly...connected to those cool looking vented valve covers.
Whaddya say? - DP

This is a sort of a "try it and see if it works" kind of project. From what I've read, the curve at the top of the tube prevents oil from being pushed out and dirt from being pushed in. I have an old spun aluminum breather box that I can use if it's necessary. If it starts to puke oil on the test stand then I'll switch to the more common style. As far as the bails are concerned, they have a bump out at the center that clears the tube. This modification doesn't effect the fit of the v/c's at all and once powder coated should be almost invisible.
Thanks for the insight Doug. It's going to take a lot of trial and error to get this thing to work.

Chris, Doug,
Do you think that valve cover venting like that would work as well on a larger engine? Say a 1500 or a 1600? It sure looks slick! Once painted you will almost never be able to tell.
What about putting a rubber "duck bill" on the end of each tube? Crankcase pressure could escape & there would be no way at all for dirt or road debris to enter the tubes. Sort of like what is on the later road draft tubes off of the oil fill.

Maybe that's what I need??? A Chicken Little has got to be good for at least 5 horse power. Shayna, you might have to post a pic to explain this....

Matt Kinney at Aircooled Research builds some beautiful stuff! His prices are very fair as well. I plan on using those velo stacks with his matching mushroom filters on top. The taller dual manifolds and velocity stacks should really increase intake velocity and make it more responsive.
He is also in the process of reproducing express style glass fuel filters.

I just thought about this again today, figured I'd bump it and see how things are going. Not that you don't have enough on the go I'm sure . Shane
