this is a 76bay 2.0L engine I would like to fist off say I know absolutely nothing about wiring my bus and it did not help that this bus wiring from the PO was hacked up, taking the OG – FI system out and making it a single carburetor. I also have no clue as to what sensors wires go where, talk about confusing can anyone please help me figure this out you can click a pic to make biggerA. Sensor sitting under distributor ?? what wire goes there?? B. Left side of engine under intake tubes ??and where does teh wire go?? C/1. This is two black wires-one comes from the front I think and the other is from the double relay (sits on left side of fire wall) these two wires end at a inline fuse and a spade connector what should they hook up to?? C/2 a pic of the inline fuse and connector ?? D. This is sitting under the carb/intake tubes on the left side, I don't see a plug for this, whats it do? wires should be coming from/going to ?? E. I think its cold start switch?? Sits on the carb ??what wire should go here?? F. I see a relay not sure for what ?? But also there is a yellow&black wire that has been cut and I have a black wire that I need a home for ?? This relay sits on the right corner of the engine. G. This wire is on the right side fire wall H. sensor at the back of the engine ?? where does the wire go and what does it do?? all I need is to get this thing started so I can check the compression and get going on a rebuild I also need a bit of help with the distributor but I'll sort out these first. thank you ! cheers SPICE

Spice to my knowledge this is what I come up with A. oil pressure switch B. air flow sensor for FI not needed for carb C. ? D. looks like a temp switch ? E. you need a wire from the coil to power choke F. ? G. ? H. Knock sensor or flywheel possition sensor ? neither needed for carb Otherwise I'll try to slip down sometime and give you a hand (tell things alot easier when its infront of you)

yes I believe it is the positive side And the wire you need as per your samba post for the oil pressure switch will ultimately come from the dash light which may be one of the wires you have floating around there!

I was thinking it went to A. the one under the distributor?? the oil sensor (under the carb) D. I need a plug but no plug is there for it !! I don't know !!! this is why I get so pissy about wiring!! cheers SPICE

Looks to me like the guy on the samba just gave you the lowdown on the wiring...at least all the questions you had Running a carb is a lot less headaches and wiring bullsh@t when it is already there and was apparently running before.

BTW I think the wire listed in G is the one you are looking for as your oil pressure switch!

OK spent the day hooking things up and the mission was to get it turning over. well that was cut short , hooked everything up (wires) then I installed the battery hooking the ground first then the positive cable as soon as I touched the positive to the post the "starter" started up but not enough to turn over the engine??? I switched the wires around on the starter and then nothing happend !! dead, switched them back and they still same thing!! (starter would run) either way I hook it up I have no lights , all the fuses are good as far as I could see anyone have a clue here!! I'm sick as a dog , fever at about 103.F and I can't think at all please help
cheers SPICE

Disconnect the main battery lead to the starter (the big wire) and connect the battery...sounds like your starter solenoid is stuck in the on possition...with the battery connected and the lead off the starter do you get power anywhere then? The starter exciter wire shouldn't have power...only when the key is in the start position Check it out its just a thought
