Long winter...no update.
Well, it's just about that time again. Spring is just around the corner. If the weather cooperates and warms up and dries out....then I can get back to working on the SC project.
Not much has changed as far as progress. I enjoy driving it so much that I have to force myself to stop driving it so that I can repair it.
New tires are on the horizon...and I need them One of the old crusty ones spit a seam and leaked out over the winter. Fortunately I had a spare tire...which is now mounted and balanced and installed.
In good news, I am officially registered in a welding course. I'm hoping that this will give me enough skills that I can get some real progress made on the rust repair.
The course is 12 hours long - over two weekends. By the time it starts, I should be able to practice outdoors ( which is where I will be working anyways )
I have a replacement radio to install in the hole in my dashboard..and I bought a Tachometer last fall...so I plan to install it as well. Still planning the shifter bushing replacement...and since I need to replace my drive axles...it might be the perfect time to drop the motor and trans.
That's about all for now... will update later on once I start making some progress...

So, yes... continuing what I was talking about in the last post. I have completed my welding course...and while it didn't offer me everything I was looking for, I'm more confident than I was the last time I picked up my welder. And, sadly, contrary to the very good advice that I got from Keith (Riff Raff), I'll be taking the Bus off the road for the necessary repairs. I bought all the bushings and such to get the shifter/rod assembly back in order...and yes, the motor and gear box will have to come out to do that. Since I bought replacement drive axles, those will be replaced at the same time. I ALSO bought some more body panels and some of the outriggers that need to be replaced. I'm planning to move the Bus to Dad's place. He has a large open concrete driveway where I can work on the bus and not worry about it. It's better than my grassy/rocky back yard. Now all I need to do is buy some more sheet metal so I can get started patching the floors before I do something drastic like cutting the rear fenders off. Wish me luck... - DP
