I like it...
The ugly part of any project is the metal work. On top of that, the suspension is done, it comes with the long-axles, new wiring loom and brakes.
For the extra $500 you get a motor as well...
Seems good to me... roller-paint this into a single color ( Tremclad ) and assemble.
I think you'd be over that dollar figure if you had to to the metal work and buy all the new bits.
Worst case scenario... if you need to sell if part way through for your Mouse Grey project or DC Project...it would likely be a clean turn-key driver.
But I'm not a bus expert...

See you've pretty much touched on all the good points to me. It also has all rows of seats (doesn't say correct seats but you never know). Hell, I could even turn it into a Mouse Grey standard if I wanted... Then this just popped up - www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=785298At first I was not at all impressed. But then I realize rockers and cut wheel wells might not be that bad to fix considering some of the projects I've seen. At least the rear seat is there, even if it's just a frame. Look at those corners... Maybe a bit pricey but I'm going to get more info.

I like it...and it's in better than average condition.
Like you said, it's pricey. That's a pretty good amount of money for a project that you're going to have to spend even more money on to replace the rust... Not just what you can see...but you need to consider the rust you can't see.
No pics of the front or rear floors...body work in the past. What's on the other side of the holes in the rockers and dog-legs.
Depents how badly you need a truck. The corners are nice though..and it's currently a runner... - OR - You could have the 'Walkthrough' running / driving and painted for less than the purchase price of the DC.

All things to consider. Assuming the DC could be had for around $7,500US I'd still be into it for about $9,500CDN by the time I got it home, then there's metal and interior. From the sounds of it I could probably have the W/T on the road for alot less than that. Thanks for the feedback DP

So I got a bunch more pictures of the DC yesterday, it really is pretty solid except for the rockers. Unfortunately there's no point in posting them as I just got an email this morning letting me know it's been sold. Oh well, the search continues...

Just got Adam's email about the '64 as well. Almost to my surprise it's complete, all glass, bumpers, etc. The front seats are original, the rear seats are Bay era seats modified to look like Split seats. It's also been stripped for bodywork now and more work may progress soon.
It almost sounds like a good deal but a wise man once told me that if it's not selling there must be a reason. That being said I may have to look into this one more.

I have friends on the coast. One in particular that might be able to give it a good look over. He's a body guy so he knows what to look for. Just thinking out loud here....

Thanks for the offer! I'm still mulling it over, the thought of not having to do any metal work really appeals to me but I don't know if the bus itself makes my heart flutter.
The responsible voice in my head keeps telling me I have enough on my plate for this summer as it is, that I should get the convertible ready to sell because two toys is enough. I just don't want to listen!

It appears that I'm going to look at a Westy on the weekend so the search for a DC may be on hold for the short term. It's fat, it's cheap and it will give me something to drive until I can get the Ghias on the road or one ready to sell. Although if this one keeps dropping in price and the dollar keeps getting better... www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=750353

I have seen it in person and the body work is wavy gravy. I could be wrong, but I would have to see bodyshop pics to believe it wasn't a bondo bucket.

From what I know I would agree. After I posted about it I saw some interior pics, the rear area looks pretty "thrown together". As well I saw something about some old logo's coming through the paint? Scary.
