I would say it is not the coil. Kieth says it pulls fine and runs great on the highway. If the coil was faulty, it would misfire and sputter and higher revs(when pulling and on the highway). I would guess something related to the carb, or possibly the points. Sometimes the points will move on you when you tighten them down. Check them after you tighten them. Is it an elesctric choke. Just double check that it is working properly. There is also the spout in the carb that sometimes turns and does not drop gas directly down the carb. It is on the outboard side of the bbutterfly valve. Sorry, i can't remember any names of the parts, i am drawing blanks!?@

Ken was saying I can check the coil by seeing if it gets hot after running for a short time. I'll try that. (if I can get it started) It does still run a little erratic at mid range rev's, but it is less noticable, probably because of more angular momentum in the engine, not because it is running any smoother. It still pulls good though. I really should not touch the carb - when I fine tuned it, I didn't touch the carb. I'll try the ignition component fix and if that doesn't work, I'll have to turn it over to someone more qualified than I to troubleshoot the problem. The oval is relaxing at it's winter retreat - my Mother-in-law's garage, so I don't have instant access to it to try out different fixes. The 15 window is down there too. Once I have the 2L built for the 15, I can bring it back up here. On the bright side - Canadian Tire has engine stands on sale for $50, so I bought one. Now I can mess with the internals of my own engines!

If it sputters through out the rpm range, then yes coil could be likely. I thought you meant only at idle, the rest was ok. Remember my coil went on the way back from JJ's in airdrie? It was sputtering like a donkey for a while, then nothing. Good luck!! Wish i could help!
